Predictions for 2025

There are two basic methods employed for predicting the future: 1) read horoscopes, tea leaves, tarot cards, or crystal balls . . . collectively known as “nutty methods;” and 2) put well-researched facts into a sophisticated computer using quantum computing technology driven by generative AI . . . commonly referred to as “a complete waste of time.”

You would think that with all the new technology being developed that predicting the future would be an easy task. You would, of course, be wrong. So I asked ChatGPT if generative AI could predict the future, and it gave me this: “While generative AI can’t directly “predict the future” in the sense of seeing specific events unfold, it can be used to analyze large amounts of data and identify patterns to make informed predictions about potential future trends, market shifts, and outcomes based on historical data, essentially providing a more informed outlook on what might happen, but not guaranteeing specific results; this capability is often referred to as “predictive analytics” when used within generative AI systems.” That is a word-salad that even Kamala Harris couldn’t match. It could have simply replied “no it can’t”, and I would have moved on to the algorithm I use for predicting the future — a first order approximation, also known as an educated guess. So here are my top 5 predictions for 2025:

  • When Donald Trump assumes the duties of the President of the United States, he will not act as a dictator, much to the chagrin of the Press.
  • Clinically application-specific ultrasound will find its way into home use for several indications.
  • Palantir will end the year with a stock price above $100/share.
  • China will not invade Taiwan after Trump takes office.
  • The Colorado Rockies will once again be dead last in their division (this was an easy one).

Happy New Year!!
