As the Director of Acertara’s IEC/ISO 17025:2017 and FDA ASCA accredited acoustic measurement laboratory, Nick is responsible for Acertara’s test activities and development. Dr. Ellens serves on several technical and standards committees within the AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) and is a delegate from the US National Committee to the IEC where he is involved with writing and maintaining international measurement standards for ultrasound. Prior to Acertara, Nick earned his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto where he studied under therapeutic ultrasound pioneer Dr. Kullervo Hynynen, after which he worked as a faculty member in the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins University. Nick’s research expertise primarily involves thermal and non-thermal ultrasound therapy. He holds several important patents, has been awarded NIH and private foundation grant support, and continues academic involvement through collaboration with Dr. Mark Borden at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
